THE ADMIRAL DEBUTS AT WANGARATTA

We have The Admiral making his debut as one of our runners at Wangaratta on a heavy track today.

The Admiral is in race one, the 2YO Maiden Plate over 1170m with Rhys McLeod to ride.

The Admiral is a son of promising first-season sire Pride Of Dubai and has the benefit of some recent jumpouts at Flemington to prepare him.

“We’re really happy with our horse - physically I think he’ll be better next preparation,” Mike Moroney said.

“He’s pretty laid back but he’s very professional and he’s a horse with talent and one we’ve always liked.

“It’s hard to know how the race will pan out with so many first starters in it but our horse has enough speed to put himself in it early and if he can some cover I’d expect him to be able to finish off so as long as he has a nice experience it is good to be able to get him to the races.

Bonaparte (pictured) is our other runner in race eight, the Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1170m with Billy Egan to ride.

“He’s gone well in his jumpouts coming into this and he’s drawn to get a nice run,” Moroney said.

“Whatever he does today he will improve on but he’s done enough for me to say he will run well, provided he copes with the ground - he’s only had one run on a soft track.”
