SATURDAY DOUBLE AT CAULFIELD

She’s A Thief and Mirimar added to our seasons total with wins at Caulfield on Saturday.

She’s Thief (pictured) led from her wide barrier and stayed on strongly to win the Father Brendamn Dillon Handicap over 1200m for fillies and mares.

It is the first win in over 18 months for She’s A Thief however, Mike Moroney said the daughter of Showcasing deserved the victory.

“She’s been racing well and I think she deserved that today,” Moroney said.

“We decided to go forward and press her luck and it was a gritty win, setting the speed and sticking on gamely.

“Daniel (Stackhouse) feels she can get 1400m in the right circumstances but it is just great to get another win for her and she’s a popular mare in the stable.”

Apprentice Lewis German gave Mirimar a positive ride in the Neds Money Back Handicap over 2000m, pressing for the lead early on and Mirimar played his part, gradually asserting his authority in the home straight to defeat Sircconi by a long-neck.

“I thought it was a really good ride and he played to the horses strengths which was the key to winning,” Moroney said.

“He’s a one-paced sort of horse so Lewis rode him the right way and the horse was tough to the line.

“He’s done a really good job considering he’s been up a long time, we gave him a freshen between the Warrnambool Cup and he’s coped with it great.”

“Both horses did so well, we’ll see how they come out the races and then make some plans.”
