CAULFIELD RUNNERS ON SATURDAY

We have three runners at Caulfield today with Arctic Wolf, Mirimar and She’s A Thief in action.

Arctic Wolf is the first to go in race three, the Open Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1440m and drawn barrier one with Daniel Stackhouse in the saddle.

Arctic Wolf showed plenty of fight to win last time out at Ballarat and Mike Moroney has made a gear change for today’s race.

“He’s done very well since his last start win but we’ve added blinkers to him to help him concentrate as he is still learning his craft,” Moroney said.

“I’m hoping he breaks on terms first time in blinkers and his work in them has been excellent and helped him focus better.

“It’s an even looking race and provided he gets a level break from the barrier I’m sure he will run well.”

She’s A Thief runs in race four, the Benchmark 84 Fillies and Mares Handicap over 1200m with Daniel Stackhouse riding from the outside barrier 12.

“She’s racing well and trained on well from her last start which I thought was really good,” Moroney said.

“The barrier is a bit awkward but it’s a straight run to the one turn so she should be able to get in and find a spot.

“If she repeats her last start form then I’d say she has to be a winning chance.”

Mirimar is in race eight, the Open Handicap over 2000m with Lewis German riding and reducing the weight to 55kg.

“He’s had a little break and is in good order,” Moroney said.

“He’s struck a hot looking race however and I’d feel happier if the track was heavy rather than soft.

“That said he’s going well and he’ll be better for today but I’m still expecting him to run well.”
