VALLEY RUNNERS ON SATURDAY

Bellows, Hang Man and She’s A Thief represent the stable at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Bellows is the first to go in race two, the 3YO Handicap over 1600m with Jordan Childs to ride and jumping from barrier eight in a field of 11.

Bellows was a comfortable winner of his Maiden last time out at Pakenham however, Mike Moroney acknowledges today’s race represents a much sterner test.

“The draw is interesting - hard to know how the track will play after the renovation and first meeting back, plus the rail is out four metres,” Moroney said.

“It’s a strong race for this time of the year and he’s in the deep end for sure. That said he’s coming off a good win and it’s a valuable race with the VOBIS bonuses so he’ll be there trying his best.”

Hang Man runs in race eight, the Open Handicap over 2040m from barrier two after scratchings and James Winks in the saddle.

“I thought he was most unlucky not to win last start, just the barrier and circumstances beat him

“He’s done well since and trained on well, he’s drawn to get a better run today and he’s going really well.

“James (Winks) knows the horse and provided he gets a clear run then I do think he’ll be hard to beat in a strong race.”

She’s A Thief rounds out the day in the last race, the Benchmark 84 Fillies and Mares Handicap over 1200m with Daniel Stackhouse riding.

“We should know by her race how the track is racing,” Moroney said.

“The key to her is the start - if she can fly the gates and put herself on speed than that is her best chance. She’s out of six now with the scratchings so she should be on speed if she gets away cleanly.

“It is a strong race but we’ll take our chance with her. She looks great and her work on Tuesday was excellent and if she can bring her best then she should be thereabouts.”
