WINNING CHANCES ON SATURDAY

A busy day at Caulfield for us with five runners and some nice chances.

Quail Hollow (pictured) is the first to go in race four, the three-year-old handicap over 1600m with Jordan Childs riding from barrier five.

The track at Caulfield today is rated good (4) and Mike Moroney said that will suit Quail Hollow who disappointed last time out on a heavy surface.

“He’s drawn nicely and back on a firmer track which for him is a good plus,” Moroney said.

“He’s in a strong race and it might just prove a bit beyond him at this stage. He’s still immature and needs to strengthen and it will be interesting to see where he fits in.

“He will be much better today on a firmer surface and I’m looking forward to seeing him run well.”

She’s A Thief is in race five, the Benchmark 90 Handicap for Mares over 1200m and jumping from barrier two under Billy Egan.

“She’s got a lovely draw and that gives here a chance,” Moroney said.

“I was a bit disappointed in her last start so we might try and push forward from that barrier and get her stimulated.

“She looks terrific and is working well so if she brings her best then she is certainly good enough to win.”

Hawker Hurricane is in race six, the Open Handicap over 1100m with Jordan Childs riding from barrier seven.

“I’m happy with him and the way he is going,” Moroney said. “I’m not so sure about the barrier as there is a lot of speed drawn inside him.

“The plan will likely be to let that go and settle just behind them, stalk the speed and then run over the top of them.”

Hang Man and Gundown both run in race nine, the open handicap over 2000m, Michael Dee aboard Hang Man and James Winks on Gundown.

“Unfortunately he’s drawn the outside however, there does look to be some speed in the race but it does appear we will need to go back from there,” Moroney said.

“I’ve left the blinkers on him as he relaxed and travelled well in them.

“We’ll keep an eye on how the track is playing but if we get a truly run race than I can see him rushing home.”

Conversely, Gundown has drawn barrier two.

“The drying track will not be in his favour but there should be some give in it,” Moroney said.

“He’s drawn well and if does turn out to be a fast run race that should suit him. I think it was the quick back-up that didn’t suit him last start, his work has been good and he’s there to run well.”
