ARCTIC WOLF BACK IN ACTION AT SANDOWN

Last start winner Spanish Peaks and Arctic Wolf are our Wednesday runners on the Hillside course at Sandown.

It is the first start since last March for the son of Sebring which finished runner-up to Chenier on debut at the Lakeside course and Mike Moroney has been keen to get Arctic Wolf back to the races.

“It’s his first run after a long break,” Moroney said. “The track is rain affected but he’s got first use of it and that’s the main reason we’re going.

“His jumpouts have been good and his last piece of work was excellent so provided he can cope with the conditions I do expect him to run well.

“He’s a horse we’ve got a high opinion of and we’re going into it thinking he will be hard to beat if he can handle the ground.”

Spanish Peaks runs in race four, the open benchmark 64 handicap over 1300m with Dwayne Dunn to ride and jumping from barrier 10 after scratchings.

Spanish Peaks won first-up on a heavy (10) track at Geelong earlier this month and has pleased Moroney since.

“He’s in the deep end for sure but the fact he handled the heavy last start has me thinking he should take his chance,” Moroney said.

“It’s an open class race so he’s up against some handy older horses - against that he’s virtually on the minimum so it should give him every chance."
