COMFORTABLE WIN FOR ANYTHING BUT

Anything But justified Mike Moroney’s pre-race confidence with a solid win at Wodonga on Monday.

Starting the $2.35 favourite for the benchmark 58 handicap over 2050m despite carrying 61kg, Billy Egan allowed Anything But to roll forward passing the 600m mark and then quickened into the lead around the home turn, going on to score by 2-1/4 lengths.

“I thought it was a really nice win,” Moroney said. “He began well and settled a bit further forward than I thought he would.

“He had to make a long run and Billy (Egan) said he always thought he was going to win.

“To be fair I was confident he would run well down in grade but it was good to win. We’ll look to step him up a bit in grade next time but aim to keep him at that 2000m distance.”

It is the second win from 14 starts for the four-year-old son of Savabeel which also has six placings.
