EASTER MONDAY RUNNERS AT SANDOWN

Laybuy, Alburq, Rue de Rennes and Iowa Hawkeye are our chances on the Lakeside course at Sandown on Easter Monday.

Laybuy is the first to go in race one, the Maiden over 1300m with Jye McNeil to ride from barrier four.

It is the first start this preparation for the son of Savabeel which showed ability in both his starts in the spring and Mike Moroney is confident of a good showing today.

“He’s trialled up well but it’s a typically strong maiden in the city as you would expect,” Moroney said.

“We’re happy with our horse and he’s drawn nicely to settle on the speed and I think he’s definitley a winning chance.”

Alburq (pictured) commences another preparation in race three, the Benchmark 70 3YO handicap over 1200m with with topweight of 60.5kg after Michael Poy’s claim.

“We scratched him from Saturday’s race because of the draw,” Moroney said. “This race doesn’t look as strong, he looks terrific and has trialled up strongly.

“Provided the track is no worse than soft I’m expecting him to be hard to beat.

Rue de Rennes is in the fourth race, the fillies and mares benchmark 70 handicap over 2100m with Michael Dee to ride and jumping from barrier five.

“She’s nice and fit but she’s struck a handy looking mares race,” Moroney said.

“Her work is terrific and she’s over a suitable trip. She’s drawn to get a nice run and in an even race she’s a winning chance if she runs up to her work.”

Iowa Hawkeye rounds out the day in race six, the benchmark 64 handicap over 1400m, jumping from barrier nine with Thomas Stockdale in the saddle.

“He’s only had a short break after his good last start win and I’m very happy with him,” Moroney said.

“The only question mark I have is his awkward draw but the bit of give in the ground will help him and he’s there to run well.”
