WE'RE STILL RACING ON SATURDAY

Racing is still on and we have four runners in two states on Saturday.

Rainbow Thief has travelled to Sydney while closer to home where have Barthelona, Star Surprise and Top Of The Range at Bendigo.

Barthelona is the first to run in race three, the benchmark 84 handicap over 1100m with Jye McNeil to ride and drawn in barrier eight.

“He’s drawn nicely in what looks a very even race,” Mike Moroney said. “To the eye he might look a little on the big side but he’s an older horse now so entitled to carry a bit more condition

“We’ve done enough work with him and he’s had a couple of jumpouts and he does run well when on the fresh side so I’m expecting him to be there and make his presence felt.”

Star Surprise (pictured) runs in race, the Bendigo Guineas over 1400m with Michael Dee riding and to jump from barrier 11.

“The draw is not a plus and he’s got some weight for a small horse but it looks a compressed spread,” Moroney said.

“He ran terrific last start at Moonee Valley and I think his form is the best in the race.

“He’s fit and bright and we’ll likely need some luck in a big field but if he does get that than I do think he’ll be right in the finish.”

Top Of The Range commences a new campaign in race eight, the Listed Bendigo Mile over 1600m from barrier three and with Dwayne Dunn to ride.

“He looks great and is going well but he’s not really a first-up horse but it’s a good place for him to start off,”

“He’s suited by the weight and the draw but whatever he does today he’ll be improved.”

Rainbow Thief is in the last race at Rosehill, the Doncaster Prelude over 1500m with Jay Ford riding.

“He’s come through that last run well and he’s travelled up well,” Moroney said.

“He’s not necessarily suited by the weights with his rating but he’s got a few other things in his favour, like the soft track and the barrier draw.

“I think he should be able to just sit behind the speed and his last gallop was excellent so if things fall the right way I can see him running well.”
