TOFANE RESUMES IN THE LIGHTNING STAKES

Tofane and Old Time Rock are the stable representatives on Lightning Stakes day at Flemington.

Tofane (pictured) resumes in the feature race, the Group 1 Lightning Stakes over the straight 1000m with Dwayne Dunn aboard from barrier three.

The daughter of Ocean Park has won her last two starts and Mike Moroney is keen to give some more experience on the straight track.

“She looks in much better shape than she did in the spring - she’s bright and strong and better in herself,” Moroney said.

“I know she’s up against some particularly sharp sprinters but I was keen to give her another try on the straight course ahead of the Newmarket.

“These races will determine which path we follow with her this preparation, it could be she follows her pedigree as being by Ocean Park and is now looking for a bit further, but today is a horse race and we’re prepared to take our chance.”

Old Time Rock runs in race three, the Listed Talindert Stakes over 1100m with Michael Dee to ride.

“The experience has helped him and he’s done well since his run. He trialled up well on the straight track last week and seemed to cope with it well,” Moroney said.

“He’s thrived since the debut run and is coping with it well.

“

It looks to be a strong renewal of this race however, in a straight line I’m expecting him to get a clear run and I think he’s good enough to be in the finish.”
