IMPORTS IN ACTION ON FRIDAY NIGHT

Two runners for us tonight at Moonee Valley with Sound and Mirimar in action.

Sound (pictured) runs in race six, the Listed Torney Night Cup over 2500m with James Winks riding and to jump from barrier one.

The import resumed with an excellent fifth over 2000m at Caulfield on January 25 and has pleased Mike Moroney on the track since.

“We were delighted with his first-up run and he’s done well since,” Moroney said. “Tonight’s race has been part of the plan from the start as we head to the Auckland Cup with him.

“He’s still a bit on the burly side - he’s a stallion and needs a bit of work and this run should tidy him up nicely.

“The speed map shapes as if he can get a nice run near the speed and while he will improve for the run I’m expecting him to be competitive and will be at all surprised if he won as he’s the best horse in the race.”

Mirimar resumes in race eight, the benchmark 78 handicap over 1600m and reduced to eight runners following scratchings.

It is the first start for Mirimar since finishing unplaced at Moonee Valley

“We’ve claimed to help him with the weight and Michael Poy has won on him previously.,” Moroney said.

“His two jumpouts leading into this have been excellent and he’s been working with some real zest. If we did happen to get some of the forecast rain that will certainly improve his chances.

“It looks an even sort of race but if he runs up to his work at home then I’m expecting him to run a cheeky race.”
