PLANS FOR LAST START WINNERS

Mike Moroney has spent the last 36 hours assessing the future programmes for last start city winners Star Surprise and Nerve Not Verve.

Star Surprise gave his rivals a start and a beating in last Saturday’s Pakenham Cup meeting.

“I thought it was a very good win first-up,” Moroney said. “He got a good ride which helped and to see him win like that was particularly pleasing.

“He’s a possible for the Magic Millions meeting at the Gold Coast and we are considering it - there has to be a little concern over travelling as he is not a straightforward horse and with the fire issues in New South Wales it might not be the best time to travel.

“He’s come through the win in good order and the Magic Millions is certainly a tempting race so we will work out what we think we will do during this week.”

Nerve Not Verve (pictured) could not have been more impressive in stretching clear to win at Moonee Valley last Friday night and, after watching the daughter of Shocking at Flemington since, has decided to give the four-year-old a break.

“She’s done very well and the win was good,” Moroney said. “She has come through the race in good order and looks terrific.

“That said, we are in the summer and there is little sign of rain so on reflection and having looked at the racing calendar I think she might benefit from going for a little break now and than coming back in the New Year.

“There are some nice mares races at stakes level in Adelaide if she proves up to that and if we ever do get some rain and can get some tracks with some give then she will appreciate it.

“She has done a good job for us this preparation and can have a nice break in the paddock.”
