BENDIGO RUNNERS ON WEDNESDAY

We are off to Bendigo with two runners on Wednesday in Laybuy and Hurricane Fighter.

Laybuy (pictured) is the first to go in race two, the Maiden Plate over 1300m with Jordan Childs riding and drawn barrier one.

The son of Savabeel made up ground in the home straight to finish third on debut over 1300m at Bendigo on October 9 with subsequent Flemington stakes winner Banquo just ahead of him in second.

“He’s had a bit of time between runs because he spiked a temperature but his work has been good,” Mike Moroney said. “We’ve been able to get some work into him but whatever he does today then he will improve on.

“The draw is a help but he has struck a strong enough field so it will be a nice test.

“Today will tell us more about his future as a colt, he’s been a bit of a boy off and on so his attitude today will be the main thing regarding his future.”

Hurricane Fighter runs in race eight, the Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1300m with James Winks riding from barrier two.

It is the third start this preparation for the Savabeel four-year-old which disappointed last time out when unplaced over 1600m at Moe on October 17.

“We’ve freshened him up, dropping him back in trip and taken all the gear off him,” Moroney said.

“He’s a much better horse than he’s been showing so we’re going back to basics.

“It’s a solid enough race and with the changes we’ve made to him he is certainly capable of running well if he produces his best form.”
