TOFANE CAPS DAMP DERBY DAY WITH A BIG WIN

Tofane capped a lucrative preparation with a dominant win in the last race on Derby day at Flemington.

The daughter of Ocean Park came from off the pace with a big finish under Dwayne Dunn to power home at the finish of the Furphys Begonia Belle Stakes over 1100m to make it consecutive wins at Group 3 level.

“We weren’t sure about how she would handle the softened ground but it certainly didn’t seem to worry her,” Moroney said.

“She tracked a hot pace and then finished it off really well, I was impressed by her.

“Once she built momentum she really flashed home and it was an impressive performence.

The daughter of Ocean Park will now enjoy a break in the spelling paddock and Moroney has ambitious plans for the mare.

“We’ll let her head to the spelling paddock now and bring her back for the autumn,” Moroney said.

“I think with a nice break she can come back and we’ll be aiming at Group One races with her and I do think she is capable of getting to that level.”

Tofane has now won four of her nine starts and earned $385,600.
