Saturday was a great day for the stable in Melbourne and we went oh so close to black type success in Queensland with talented four-year-old Viking Hero (pictured) only just beaten in the Gr.3 Chairman's Handicap at Doomben.

It was two from two at Caulfield though, kicking off with exciting two-year-old Sabrage who showed plenty of heart taking out the Swettenham Stud Handicap in determined style.

Kicking up from an inside gate to share the early lead, Sabrage soon had the lead to himself but had to withstand several strong challenges from the 200m. But from the 150m he had them well and truly covered, digging deep to find the line.

"Michael has always had a high opinion of this horse," said Ballymore racing manager Anthony Feroce, adding that the well bred colt would now head to the paddock in preparation for a spring campaign.

"We are hoping he can measure up to the Caulfield Guineas."

A $200,000 Easter purchase for Paul Moroney, Sabrage is raced by Ballymore Stables Aust, Rupert & Cheryl Legh Racing, Lorne Bloodstock, Michael & Jennifer Krauser, Peter & Julienne and Stephen Kay.

By Red Ransom's Galaxy winning son Charge Forward he is out of the terrific mare Galroof who won the Gr.3 Doomben Classic for the stable.

"She was a really good mare," Feroce recalled. "She was being aimed at the Caulfield Cup when she did a tendon."

A proven broodmare - also dam of the Listed winning Doncaster Handicap placegetter Pinnacles and the stakes placed Husonic - Galroof is also dam of a Hussonet yearling filly Ballymore purchased this year.

We didn't have to wait too long for another winner, later in the day tough mare Shylock's Daughter too strong for her rivals in the Phillip Gough Handicap.

A short priced favourite on the strength of her good wet track form and her previous easy win at Caulfield, the attractive chestnut recorded the seventh win of her consistent 30 start career.

The winner of just short of $200,000 in stakes, Shylock's Daughter was co-bred by Paul Moroney and is raced by Zlate Angelovski, Robert Baker, Gerald Bell, G Delmastro, Leo Marin, Max Massella, Paul McConnell, Mario Ragusa, Sylvia Sherlock and Michael Taliano.

"She has really improved as she has matured," Feroce said, noting that the mare is in career best form at six.

Her win was the third for the stable in three days with New Zealander Born To Rock most impressive at her Australian debut at Ipswich on Friday.

Kicking off her winter campaign in a 1350m Class 2 event, the three-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock proved a class above the others, saluting by a soft five lengths.

A two times winner in NZ and nominated for the Queensland Oaks & Derby, Born To Rock - raced by Gkv Holdings and Michael Head - is out of the imported mare Call Me Pretty, a half sister to the northern hemisphere stakes winners Tiger's Rock and Warrior Queen.
