SHILO LASS TO DEBUT AT BALLARAT

Shilo Lass makes her debut at Ballarat on Friday while Bishop Rock steps up in trip.

Bishop Rock is in the first race, the 3YO Maiden over 1400m where he will jump from barrier eight under Michael Dee.

The son of Fastnet Rock showed speed before weakening first-up over 1200m at Cranbourne on September 18 and Mike Moroney feels he has the makings of a staying type.

“There doesn’t look a lot of speed in the race so if he flies the gates we’ll let him settle where he’s happy,” Moroney said.

“He’s got good gate speed but he doesn’t appear to be able to quicken so the extra distance will suit him. He looks terrific and his work has been good so while I think he’ll be better over a bit further he should be there to show some improvement today.”

Unfortunately she has drawn the outside barrier in a field of 13 however. Moroney is keen to get the daughter of Foxwedge started.

“Obviously the draw is not the best but I’m happy to let her run,” Moroney said. “They run in a straight line then there’s just the home turn so it’s probably not as bad as it would appear to be.

“It doesn’t look the deepest race and our filly is ready to go to the races - she’s still a work in progress and needs to strengthen up a bit but this looks a nice race to get her started off.

“She’s only had the one jumpout but she’s shown me natural ability and provided she gets some luck from the draw it will not surprise me at all to see her run a forward race.”
