THREE CHANCES IN THE SAME RACE AT CAULFIELD

Three runners for us at Caulfield on Saturday and all in the same race!

Gundown, Hang Man and Tribal Wisdom run in the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap over 1400m with Gun Down racing in Australia for the first time and Hang Man first-up from a spell.

Gundown is racing for the first time since finishing sixth in the Auckland Cup over 3200m on a heavy track earlier in the year and has pleased Mike Moroney during his time at Flemington.

“l couldn't be happier with him as he hasn't missed a beat since coming over from New Zealand,” Moroney said.

“Both his jump outs have been first rate and his work this week has been very good. He is in great order and we feel he is in for a great preparation.

“While this distance is short of his best and it looks aa very strong race, I am confident he will run a big race and a placing wouldn't surprise me at all.”

Hang Man (pictured) has not raced since finishing unplaced in the Mornington Cup over 2000m in March and he too has delighted Moroney with the way he has come back.

“I’m thrilled with the way he has come back in this time,” Moroney said. “He is stronger and looks the best he ever has. He has had a faultless preparation with both of his jump outs very good and his work this week has been first rate

“He was able to win first up over 1400m last preparation that was in a Benchmark70 and this race could easily be a stakes race.

“On the positive is that he does only have 52kg on his back with inform apprentice Michael Poy on board who is coming off riding a double for the stable at Sandown on Wednesday.

“I’d anticipate he will settle midfield or worse so he will require luck but if they go hard in front he can run quick sectionals and look for him finishing strongly therefore he is an each way chance in a very open race.”

Tribal Wisdom finished unplaced first-up in the Auries Star Handicap down the straight at Flemington however, that was on a heavy track and he gets his preferred firm surface on Saturday.

“He strips fitter for this race from the first-up run and the real plus for him is getting back to a good track at last,” Moroney said.

“His work this week has been excellent - it’s a pity he has drawn out a bit but he has a few things in his favour, goes around on the minimum and I feel he will run very well in a very open race.”
