A BUSY SATURDAY FOR THE TEAM

Runners at two tracks for us today with winning chances today at Moonee Valley and at Moe.

Alburq, Mirimar and Radipole travel up Ascot Vale Road to the Valley while Corado State is our runner further afield at Moe.

Alburq (pictured) is the first to go in race one, the 3YO Handicap over 1000m with Mark Zahra riding from barrier four in the field of seven.

It is the first start this preparation for Alburq, who is now a gelding and Mike Moroney is happy with the way the son of Rubick has come back.

“He’s only had one jumpout coming into this but it’s only a thousand metres which should suit,” Moroney said.

“When we saw the way this race was falling we decided to take a chance.

“I think our horse has the best form in the race and we’re expecting him to run well and it would be nice to start the preparation with a win.”

Last start Sandown winner Mirimar runs in race six, the Chandler MacLeod Handicap over 2500m with Michael Poy riding again.

“We’ve aimed him at this race with the better prizemoney,” Moroney said. “He’s racing well and has done well since the last win, he looks great and is nice and bouncy.

“The draw looks a bit awkward in barrier 11 but it is what it is.

“There doesn’t look too much speed in it and I think with some ordinary luck in running he will be hard to beat.”

Radipole rounds out our day in town in race seven, the Dynamic Print Group Handicap over 2040m with Michael Dee riding.

“He’s drawn out a little bit and it’s a handy race,” Moroney said. “We’re stepping him out in distance and is as well as we can get him.

“There looks plenty of speed in the race and I can see him landing in a nice spot. If you went on his work you would say he’s a winning chance but he has been a little bit disappointing so it’s up to him now.”

Colorado State runs in race three at Moe, the Ladbrokes Maiden Plate over 2075m with Dylan Dunn riding from barrier 11.

It is the third start this preparation for the son of Roc de Cambes who finished fifth last time out over 1590m at Wangaratta on June 24.

“From that draw we’ll have to ride him back a little bit which might not be a disadvantage as they often scoot along a bit at Moe.

“He’s worked well and this looks a winnable race so I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t go close to winning.”
