ECHUCA RUNNERS FOR US ON SUNDAY

Two runners left for us on Sunday with Shy One and Flying Mr Davis heading off to Echuca after our intended runners at Ballarat all stay at home.

Shy One runs in the first race, the Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate over 1100m with Nikita Beriman replacing Rhys McLeod who is indisposed.

It will be the third start this preparation for the daughter of Sepoy which will jump from barrier nine after scratchings.

“The track has come up a soft six and although there have been some of Sepoy’s offspring handle a rain affected surface we’re not entirely sure how Shy One will handle it,” Mike Moroney said.

“At this stage we’re going to let her take her chance but if it happened to get any worse we’ll have another think.

“We’ve taken the blinkers off her - she over-raced in them last start and while the draw is not ideal the key will be for her to relax.

“She’s a filly that has always shown us ability and if she ran up to her best then she can be in the finish.”

Flying Mr Davis runs in race three, the Maiden Plate over 2100m with Daniel Stackhouse replacing the indisposed Rhys McLeod.

The son of Savabeel made up good ground last start at Geelong when finishing second over 1715m and Moroney expects the extra distance of Sunday’s race to be in his favour.

“I thought it was a really good run last start and you would think the step up in trip is going to suit him,” Moroney said.

“There looks a bit of form in the race so he’ll have to improve again but we’ve always thought he’d be better over a trip and with blinkers on.

“His work has been good and he’s fit enough so I’m expecting him to run a good race.”
