BIG FEATURE RACE SATURDAY FOR US

An important day for us with runners in feature races in two states and confident we can get amongst the good prizemoney on offer.

Chapada, Arrogant and Tribal Wisdom are in Sydney for Group 1 races while Hang Man and Milwaukee are closer to home at Mornington.

Arrogant and Chapada both start in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m), with Damien Oliver aboard Chapada and Craig Williams on Arrogant.

Chapada is over the heat stress which affected him in the Australian Guineas and has arrived in Sydney in good order Mike Moroney said.

“He’s drawn nicely and travelled up well,” Moroney said. “He got on to the float looking magnificent and he’s arrived safe and sound.

“We realise we’re up against what is probably the champion 3yo but it’s a horse race and we’re taking our chance.

“We’ll probably take advantage of the barrier one and put him near the speed. I’ve got a lot of confidence in him and I’ll be disappointed if he’s not in the finish and I’m sure he will run well.”

Arrogant comes into the race off a last start fourth in the New Zealand Derby

“The heavy track should not be an issue for him but you never really know until you put them under pressure on it,” Moroney said.

“He’s settled into Sydney well and is nice and bright, is eating and drinking well.

“I’d think we’ll try and put him on speed from barrier five but as with Chapada, we’re up against what is probably the champion 3yo but it’s a horse race and we’re taking our chance.

“He’s probably got to improve on his New Zealand form but he’s there with a chance in a Group 1 race.”

Tribal Wisdom (pictured) resumes in the Group 1 Galaxy over 1100m with Jay Ford riding from barrier one.

It is the first start since defeating Osborne Bulls at Randwick last April for Tribal Wisdom who suffered a muscle injury in that win.

“I know we’re throwing him in at the deep end but he’s trialled up extremely well,” Moroney said.

“He’s drawn well and has no weight on his back and if he can get some luck against some food horses then I do think he can run a big race.

“He’s on his way to Queensland for the winter and this is an excellent starting point for him.”

At Mornington Hang Man runs in the Mornington Cup over 2400m and Milwaukee resumes in the Hareeba Stakes over 1200m, Patrick Moloney to ride both and both drawn barrier three.

Hang Man comes into the race off a last start win at Flemington and Moroney is aiming to win and secure a place in the Cailfield Cup later this year.

"We mapped out a program to get him through to the Mornington Cup before the start of this campaign, we had a little glitch when he was disappointing a couple of starts ago (at Flemington) but we've made every race that we've wanted to and it's mostly gone to plan," Moroney said.

"We were starting to worry whether or not he was going to make the field for a while but the numbers fell away a little bit and we've made the race.

"He's lightly weighted which helps and winning the Mornington Cup would help from a Caulfield Cup perspective before you can plan to get there at your best without having to qualify through the spring.

"He's drawn nicely and should position midfield and with equal luck in running then I’m expecting him to run extremely well.”

Milwaukee resumes after time off for an injury sustained in the paddock. The five-year-old won his last start over 200m at Flemington last April.

“He’s trialled up well and it’s great to have him back in action,” Moroney said. “His last piece of work with Tribal Wisdom was terrific and while he’ll take obvious improvement out of this race I’m expecting him to run well.

“I’m sure he’ll give a good account of himself from the good draw and it’s just good to have him back at the races because he is a talented horse.”
