ANOTHER CUP FOR VENGEUR MASQUE

Vengeur Masque made his class tell when proving too good in Friday’s Torney Night Cup (Listed, 2500m) at Moonee Valley.

Enjoying the run of the race in third behind the leader Fabrizio, Patrick Moloney presented Vengeur Masque passing the 600m and the import proved best in the run home, going on to defeat Naval Warfare by one length.

It was the third start for Vengeur Masque since finishing unplaced in last year’s Melbourne Cup and the second this preparation.

Trainer Mike Moroney admitted he was concerned going into the race the seven-year-old was still a run away from peak fitness.

“We’ve been particularly pleased with him but if anything, I thought he was still half a run short,” Moroney said.

“Patrick gave hime a lovely ride however and the horse was just too strong.

“I’m not sure where we’ll we’ll head with him, there’s either a Adelaide Cup or maybe the Auckland Cup, we’ll just see. He’s a horse that doesn’t like the wet so he’s dictated to a bit by the ground.”

Moloney said he was confident approaching the home turn after a perfect run.

“He relaxed for me and settled into a lovely rhythm. We didn’t go too fast and I knew he’d be able to sustain a run for me and he did it well," Moloney said.

“It’s been a great job by the stable to get the horse winning at this stage and I’m just pleased to be a part of it - he’s been a terrific horse to me.”

It is the fifth win for Vengeur Masque, whose earnings now approach $1 million.
