FOUR RUNNERS FOR BALLYMORE ON CAULFIELD CUP DAY

Four runners on Caulfield Cup day with two chances in the $5m feature for the stable.

Our Derby contender Chapada is the first to go in race six, the Group 3 Caulfield Classic over 2000m with Patrick Moloney to ride from barrier four.

The son of Bullet Train impressed winning his last start at Wangaratta by five lengths and has pleased Mike Mike Moroney on the track at home since.

“We can’t fault him and we think he’s improved, his gallop on Tuesday with Loyalty Man was particularly good ” Moroney said.

“There looks to be a bit of speed in the race and ideally he can settle in the first four, the key will be if he can relax.

“It’s a strong race as you would expect but we are very happy with our horse and expecting him to be hard to beat.”

Sound Check and Vengeur Masque start in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup

It is the Australian debut for Sound Check (pictured) who will jump from barrier 14 after scratchings with Jordan Childs to ride.

“We think it will be truly run so he will likely go back from the start, Moroney said. “The main question will be how he handles the Caulfield track.

“He’s settled in very well at Flemington and with ordinary luck we’re expecting him to be running on at the finish and if it does turn into a test of stamina then that will suit him down to the ground.”

Vengeur Masque will jump from barrier six with Patrick Moloney to ride.

“The real key to his chance will be how the race is run - from the barrier we think he can get a nice trail along the inside,” Moroney said.

“He’s done particularly well and he looks terrific.

“Everything has gone to plan with him and he worked really well with Sound Check on Tuesday.

“If the race is run at a normal tempo then I do think he can run a big race.”

Loyalty Man rounds out the day in the last, the Group 3 Moonga Stakes over 1400m. It is the second start this campaign for the six-year-old which resumed with an excellent fifth first-up at Moonee Valley over 1200m.

“He’s fitter again after his long break away and he’s trained on well since his first start back,” Moroney said.

“He’s drawn to get the right run from barrier four and although he’s still a little way away from being 100 percent fit if he got the run of the race than he’s good enough to be right in the finish.
