WHAM AND STRIKE FORCE IN ACTION ON WEDNESDAY

Strike Force and Wham represent the stable when they race at Flemington on Wednesday.

Wham is the first to go in race seven with Strike Force in the race after.

Wham (pictured) is in the Victoria Derby Trial over 1800m with Jordan Childs to ride and jumping from barrier three after scratchings.

After winning well at Echuca in August, Wham finished sixth at his last start over 1600m at Bendigo and Mike Moroney is anticipating the son of Fiorente will prove up to the class rise.

“He’s trained on well, we haven’t had to do too much with him but he’s a happy horse,” Moroney said.

“There looks to be pace in the race and I’d see him relaxing just behind the lead and then see if he can run on.

‘This race is a fork in the road with him, ideally he will run well and show he’s Derby chance.

“If not then he can either drop back in class or we can go to the paddock.”

Strike Force was the joint-top weight in race eight, the Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1630m with Moroney employing apprentice Lachlan King to reduce the weight.

“Lachie has won on him before so it seemed a logical choice,” Moroney said.

“It’s been a little while between runs for the horse but he’s fit enough. He’s got a good record here at Flemington and he’s drawn well.

“It looks an even sort of race but I do think if he can get things run to suit then he will be hard to beat.”
