HEAVY CONDITIONS SUIT OUR RUNNERS AT WARRNAMBOOL

Last star winner Dodge City and Potemkin are our runners at Warrnambool on Thursday.

Dodge City (pictured) runs in race eight, the Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1700m and Potemkin is in race seven, the Benchmark 70 Handicap.

Stephen Brown’s claim reduced Dodge City’s weight to 59.5 and Mike Moroney is happy to see a heavy track.

“It might be a little deeper than when he won first-up at Wangaratta over 1590m but he carried the same weight there,” Moroney said.

“I think he’s going as well as he was before the last win and it was a good effort there.

“I can’t see any reason why he can’t win again with ordinary luck.”

Rhys McLeod will be aboard Potemkin who jumps from barrier six after scratchings.

It is the seventh run this campaign for Potemkin who scored at Ballarat on a heavy track over 1600m in June.

“The scratchings help but the main thing is the heavy track - the last time he ran on a heavy track he won and that will be in his favour,” Moroney said.

“It’s a decent looking race with three last start winners in it but our horse is well in himself.

“He has conditions in his favour to run well and I’m expecting him to be there at the finish.”
