KARIYA TOO GOOD AT SALE

Kariya confirmed the promise she had shown in her first preparation with a strong win at Sale on Thursday.

Racing first-up in the Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate over 1422m with Patrick Moloney in the saddle. Kariya assumed control early by crossing to lead from a wide barrier and was never headed, running on well to defeat the odds-on favourite Peko by one length.

The four-year-old daughter of All Too Hard has come back a stronger filly this time in but can be willful.

“She can be a bit quirky and be a bit of a stress head as she was in the mounting yard today,” Moloney said.

“But that’s just her and the main thing is she raced well and showed the good form she’s been showing at home in her work and jumpouts.

“She jumped well and we were able to get across without having to do too much.

“She was really strong for me through the line and Mike is always telling me about her classic pedigree so she can only improve on this.

“She’s had a nice blow afterwards and I’m sure she can go on with it from here.”

Her granddam Islington won the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, the Yorkshire Oaks twice and the Nassau Stakes and a sister to Group I winner Greek Dance and half-sister to Group I winner Mountain High.
