CLASSIC RUNNER IN BRISBANE

A classic runner for the team on Saturday with Play That Song contesting the Queensland Oaks.

Play That Song has drawn one from the outside in the 16-horse field and will be ridden by Michael Cahill,

Play That Song finished seventh last start in the Doomben Roses (Gr 2) over 2000m after an excellent fourth at Listed level at her previous start and Mike Moroney remains mystified by the performance.

“She loomed up to win and then seemed to struggle but in hindsight, I think the track might have had something to do with it,” Moroney said.

“It was wet and cut up and I think she may not have handled it when the pressure came on.”

Play That Song will be racing for the sixth time this preparation but has thrived since the run and pleased Moroney.

“I’m really happy with her, she’s worked really well and she could not be any fitter,” Moroney said.

“This is the furthest she has raced and I gave her her a searching gallop earlier in the week and she answered that with a great piece of work.

“She just keeps eating and looks great so she’s going into the race as well as can be.

“She has an awkward draw but it looks like being truly run so we will likely go back and give her a chance to run on.

“The traffic in the straight could prove an issue but in what looks a strong field I do feel if things go her way she can figure in the finish.”
