DOUBLE CHANCES AT SANDOWN

Two winning chances at Sandown with last start winner’s Pedro Ximenez and Blackwolf Run on the Lakeside course.

Pedro Ximenez (pictured) is in race four, the Benchmark 78 Handicap over 2400m where he will again be ridden by Patrick Moloney.

The son of High Chaparral came from well back to score over the same distance last start at Caulfield and Moroney is expecting another forward showing as he steps up in grade.

“It’s a stronger field than his last race but against that he does look to get in well at the weights,” Moroney said.

“He’s trained on very well since and we can’t fault him. He’s a clean-winded horse so the four weeks between runs doesn’t concern me as he’s done enough work at home.

“The form out of his last win is standing up with the horse he beat placing in the Adelaide Cup and we think our horse is a young stayer on the up.

“The question mark for me is how truly it will be run with a smallish field but against that there’s plenty of room at Sandown for him to get out and rolling.”

Blackwolf Run is in race six, the Benchmark 64 3YO Handicap over 1000m which also carries a Super VOBIS bonus.

The son of All Too Hard has always shown good ability at home and led all the way to win his maiden at Ararat on March 9.

“He’s got a lot of speed and looks the likely leader in the race,” Moroney said.

“He’s trained on really well – he’s actually put on a couple of kilos from when he won and is getting stronger.

“We haven’t had to do too much with him but what he’s done he’s done well and he’s certainly fit enough for 1000m.

“I’m not too concerned about being drawn out as they only go around one corner and as long as he doesn’t have to do too much work early then I think he will run very well.”
