WOLF RUNS THEM RAGGED

Blackwolf Run proved too good for his rivals at Ararat on Friday and landed a healthy VOBIS bonus in the process.

Blackwolf Run bounced out to lead under Jason Benbow and then proceeded to set a solid pace. Clear around the home turn Blackwolf Run maintained the gallop all the way to the line and went on to win the 3YO Maiden (1100m) by 1 1/2-lengths.

The son of All Too Hard had finished runner-up at his previous two starts and is gradually getting his head around racing.

Benbow said Blackwolf Run still did a few things wrong but did it well at the finish.

“He’s put the writing on the wall with his last two starts but it’s good to see him deliver, the 1100m was the perfect trip,” Benbow said.

“I think he’s still his own worst enemy - he gets himself worked up going to the barriers, needs the blanket and wears the hood but for all that he’s getting better.

“When he can harness his energy and use it when you want him to he’s definitely got a lot of speed there.”

Blackwolf Run was purchased by Paul Moroney at the Melbourne Premier Sale for $140,000. In winning he collected a $8,400 VOBIS Owners bonus in addition to the $12,100 first prize.
