Busy weekend for Moroney stable

The Moroney stable are hopeful of a successful weekend with four runners on Saturday, one on Sunday and another on Monday.

Close to home on Saturday the stable has two talented horses lining up at Moonee Valley - the promising two-year-old Toluka and the in-form gelding Abitofado.

Catching the eye with a strong finishing fourth at Sandown two weeks ago, Toluka has drawn the ideal gate of five in the Top Cat Electrics Handicap and he enjoys the services of Glen Boss.
"He just keeps improving," said Moroney of the son of General Nediym. "It was a very good run last start and he has trained on well."

"There are some smart horses in this race but he should finish in the thick of things."
Later in the day Abitofado looks a big chance in the Don Abell Cup. Also to be ridden by Glen Boss, he has been in great form of late and he was game last start after not having the best of runs.

"He loves Moonee Valley," said Moroney, "and he looks very well placed."
The stable will also be represented by two runners at Morphettville on Saturday - Redondo Beach and Pointe Dancer.

Lining up in the opening event, the Allan Scott Park Handicap, Redondo Beach drops a bit in grade and rises in distance - Moroney helpful that a gear change will see an improved showing from the half brother to W.S Cox Plate hero El Segundo.

Hopefully it will be a running double for the stable with Pointe Dancer contesting the next race on the card, the Dermody Handicap over 1050m.

Close up at two Flemington runs following on from a very easy maiden victory, the daughter of Noverre is well regarded by Moroney who is confident of a bold showing.

"She has drawn a bit awkwardly in 13 but she is a classy filly."
Another of the stable two-year-olds in Sophrosyne races at Benalla on Sunday. A slight rise in distance should suit the son of Testa Rossa who ran home strongly after settling last at his Benalla debut on July 2.
"He is a nice two-year-old," said Moroey, "and he as trained on really well. He will mature into a lovely three-year-old."
Debuting at Sale on Monday is Suribachi, an $80,000 Magic Millions graduate by exciting first season sire Charge Forward.

A son of the speedy stakes winning mare Cloudlet, he shows a bit of potential - "he is a nice, fast horse," said Moroney.
In other stable news two horses who campaigned well in Queensland are back in the stable and looking good - Tinseltown (third in the Brisbane Cup) being set for the big Cups and Deraismes (third in the Caloundra Cup) eyeing off such races as the Ballarat and Bendigo Cups.
Meanwhile our Gr.1 galloper Sarrera has settled in well in New Zealand and will kick off his spring campaign in the Gr.1 Mudgway Stakes in late August.
The stable are excited about our spring prospects, including a number of unraced three-year-olds showing promise - "we are hoping a few of them will really put their hand up during the carnival," Moroney said.
