TETON CAN BE GRAND AT WERRIBEE

Grand Teton the only runner for the stable on Friday he runs at Werribee.

Grand Teton runs in race six, the Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1600m where he will be ridden by Patrick Moloney.

Trainer Mike Moroney was considering not running however, scratchings have reduced the field to seven and after studying the form Moroney feels this is a good opportunity for Grand Teton.

“The field has really fallen away and it does not look the strongest,” Moroney said.

“In addition there looks no obvious speed in the race so it does look to give him a chance.”

Grand Teton has had two starts this campaign, finishing well back at his last start at Pakenham on February 1.

Moroney said the son of Rip Van Winkle is now ready to show his best.

“On paper this does look the race for him now - last start going back did not work out as he just pulled hard and then didn’t finish off,” Moroney said.

“He has got natural speed and although he has drawn wide we’ll try and push forward and make our own luck.

“If things fall his way then I think he can go very close.”
