CAMPAIGNS COMMENCING AT GEELONG

Bolek and Villarrica both commence campaigns on the transferred Geelong meeting on Sunday.

The meeting was originally designated for the turf but after the rain this weekend is now on the Synthetic track.

Bolek is the first to go in race one, the 3YO Maiden over 1200m with Jordan Childs to ride and jumping from barrier three.

Scratchings have reduced the field to nine including Bolek and Mike Moroney is looking forward to getting the son of Swift Alliance to the races.

“He’s had a bit of practice both at home and in Sydney but he’s just been a little immature,” Moroney said.

“He has shown us nice ability and he’s ready to start off after a couple of jumpouts.

“It looks a solid field even after the scratchings but I’d be thinking he can go there and be competitive,”

Scratchings have also reduced the field for Villarrica (pictured) in race four, the Class 1 Handicap over 1300m where Jordan Childs is the rider.

The four-year-old daughter of Smart Missile won her Maiden on soft ground at Geelong last preparation.

“She’s strengthened up and is a stronger mare this time around with maturity,” Moroney said.

“She shaped as though she would get out beyond 1600m last preparation but she had possibly come to the end of her preparation when we tried that.

“This is a good start off point for her and she’s drawn nicely so she should run well in what now looks an open race.”
