WINNING CHANCES ON MOE CUP DAY

Three runners after scratchings at Moe on Thursday for Ballymore Stables with good chances in all three races.

Maria Elisa is the first to go when she runs in race five, the Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1000m.

The daughter of Denman ran well to finish runner-up over 1000m at Mornington at her last start and Mike Moroney is expecting a big run.

“She looks well weighted in what is a decent looking field,” Moroney said.

“She’s come through her last start in good order and we’ve kept her on the fresh side.

“She’s drawn to be able to utilise her speed and at the weights I think she has a winning chance.”

Tribal Wisdom (pictured) was taken out of his race at Caulfield on Wednesday to concentrate on race six, the Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1600m where the softer surface will suit.

“Unfortunately he’s drawn the outside and it’s his first start at 1600m,” Moroney said.

“He’s bred to get the trip so I’m not too concerned about that.

“The one thing that is a worry is the draw but we’ll have a look and see how the track is playing before making a plan.

“The horse is very well and we are expecting him to run well.”

Barthelona is the last to go in race nine, the Benchmark 78 sprint over 1200m and Moroney is expecting a change of luck.

“He’s drawn nicely now after a scratching so he should be able to get a nice run,” Moroney said.

“It’s a competitive enough race but our horse is going very well and looks better and better.

“He’s just had no luck his last two starts, no-ones fault, but we’d be expecting him to run very well here.”
