Monaco Consul on track for Turnbull

Monaco Consul has beaten Faint Perfume in an exhibition gallop between races at Caulfield on Sunday, seven days before their clash in the Group One Turnbull Stakes.

With race jockey Craig Williams aboard, Monaco Consul sat two lengths off the Bart Cummings-trained Faint Perfume, ridden by Luke Nolen, in the 1600m workout before joining her around the home turn.

The Mike Moroney-trained Monaco Consul forged clear in the straight to win the gallop by three-quarters of a length.

The pair were timed to run the final 200m on the workout in a sizzling 22.5s, the last 400m in 34.8 and the last 800m in 49s.

"Both horses had a nice hit-out and ran a bit of time. We thought we'd bring him here today and he'll have a hit-out on the course proper at Flemington as well," Moroney said.

"We'll go to the Turnbull and make up our minds after that whether to go to the Cox Plate or the Caulfield Cup.

"That will tell the picture before we head to the Melbourne Cup.

"He doesn't need a lot of racing and his two runs have been really good so far this preparation."
