HOT FIELDS AT BENDIGO ON WEDNESDAY

Metson and Spanks head to Bendigo on Wednesday to represent Ballymore Stables and both have found hot races.

Metson (pictured) runs in race five, the 3YO Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1100m where he will be ridden by Patrick Moloney.

The son of Canford Cliffs overdid things last start at Flemington and Mike Moroney has devoted many hours training the gelding to relax.

“He’s freshened up nicely and we gave him a jumpout last week where we rode him off the speed,” Moroney said.

“Patrick just sat on him and the horse relaxed nicely so we will look to do the same from the draw we have here.

“I do have a high opinion of this horse but he has to learn to relax in his races if he is going to reach the level we think he’s capable of.

“If we do end up getting the forecast rain then his wide draw might not be a disadvantage but he’s struck a strong field so we’ll just accept things and ride him to finish the race off.”

Spanks runs in race six, the Benchmark64 Handicap over 1400m and Moroney is pleased with the way the mare has trained on since her last start win at Bendigo.

“We haven’t had to do a lot with her and she’s done particularly well since her last start,” Moroney said.

“She looks particularly well and while Wednesday’s race is a little step up in class we’ve claimed again to help her and I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t run another good race.”

Patrick Moloney will ride Metson and Liam Riordan is aboard Spanks again.
