SOFT CONDITIONS TO SUIT OUR SANDOWN RUNNERS

Two runners for the stable on the Lakeside course at Sandown on Sunday in Grand Teton and Sognani and both will appreciate the soft conditions.

Grand Teton is the first to go in race two, the Tile Importer Handicap over 2100m at 12.30pm (aest).

Mike Moroney feels the current soft track conditions will suit Grand Teton who has been racing out of the Sydney stable.

“It’s great that we have got the soft track that we came back to Melbourne for and the horse is going really well,” Moroney said.

“He’s only just four and he meets some pretty seasoned older horses here but he’s got some upside I feel.”

Moroney’s main concern is the barrier draw, Grand Teton to jump from 10 in a field of 11 after scratchings.

“I just hope he can get across, get some cover and relaxes,” Moroney said.

“I think that will be the key to his race and if he can do that then I think he is an each-way chance.”

Sognani (pictured) runs the race six, the Chandler Macleod Handicap over 1200m at 3.00pm, and Mike is pleased the daughter of Magic Albert has struck a soft track.

“I know we are dropping back in distance but the soft track is ideal for her,” Moroney said.

“The key to her really is the ground and the one disappointment is the wide draw but we can’t do anything about that.

“It’s a nice run in on the Lakeside course so we’ll like let her settle back and then run home. It’s a strong race but she has the conditions to suit.”
