FOUR RUNNERS STEPPING OUT AT RANDWICK AND BENDIGO

Vandancer (Savabeel x Vanessatheundressa) kicks off the day looking for her first black type win at Randwick in the Group 2 Schweppes Chairman’s Handicap over 2600m jumping from barrier 5 with Tommy Berry aboard.

Stepping up in trip, she does meet some tough, handy stayers in this small field. She has previously got through wet ground at Randwick well and being a Savabeel out of a Carnegie mare, on bloodlines, we expect her to get the distance in the conditions. She presents fit, race-ready and we’d pick her as an each way chance here.

Then we see Tivaci (pictured) lining up in the WFA Group 1 Darley TJ Smith Stakes over 1200m jumping from barrier 9 with Damien Oliver taking the ride.

Moroney is not too concerned about the weight-for-age conditions and is confident this big strong galloper is a weight carrier. The unknown element here is the heavy track – though what we do know is that this son of High Chaparral is fit and presents in outstanding order – we could not be happier with him leading into today’s event.

At Bendigo, War Legend takes his place in the Listed TAB Golden Mile with stable rider Patrick Moloney taking the ride.

This is a big step up in class but he does take the benefit of the minimum weight in this maximum handicap race. The son of Rip Van Winkle is in excellent order and is in winning form, just being beaten by a nose by talented stablemate Strike Force most recently at Flemington.

He does have a sticky barrier draw of 15 to contend with, though does have plenty of ability and is in good hands with Moloney who will give him every chance to get some cover and relax into a handy position. With some luck in running from that draw, this galloper would have to be a good each way chance.

Last on the card for Saturday is Milwaukee who starts in the Listed Rich Enuff At Woodside PK Bendigo Guineas event over 1400m. He has a nice barrier draw of 2, and has done everything right leading up to this race.

There is no doubt that this is a galloper still on the improve and will appreciate the mile – though looking through the field, this does look a winnable race for him. The son of Fastnet Rock has great gate speed and with a positive ride from Patrick Moloney and luck in running, a win would be no surprise.
