Auckland Cup Day 2017

Saturday is Auckland Cup day at Ellerslie where. Mister Impatience lines up for a start in the Group 1 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup over 3200m in the hands of Sam Spratt.

The two-mile specialist, already the winner of two stakes races over 3200m is looking in fine form for this race, already impressing this prep when running third in the Group 2 Avondale Cup.

Hoping he can place himself nicely in the running from a barrier two draw, the expected rain may not be too much of a hindrance for this old-pro.

“He is one of the proven few two-milers in the race and with the track conditions the way they are, that should hold him in good stead” Moroney reports.

Our second runner is Ruby Armani in the Group 2 Westbury Classic over 1400m under Vinnie Colgan. Coming through her encouraging first up run at Avondale extremely well, she has come to hand very nicely since. Mike and Pam have always felt 1400m is her best trip and she has proven herself previously in Group company. The wide draw may just be the place to be with the expected rain, although she won’t be ideally suited by anything worse than a Dead 6.

“Unlike most of the Makfi stock, she showed in her early days a dislike of wet tracks, but we are hoping that as she has got older and stronger that she may get through the wetter ground. It would be great to get black type with her for the Bax family and partners” said Moroney.
