Brilliant Brazilian!

Brazilian Pulse proved herself Victoria's leading three-year-old filly with a tough and determined victory in Saturday's $300,000 Gr.2 Wakeful Stakes at Flemington.

Always wide from an outside gate, Brazilian Pulse was positioned in a placed referred to by trainer Michael Moroney as "the suicide spot."

"You can sit wide with cover at Flemington," he said, "but you don't want to be the first horse sitting wide - which is where she was. But she still won!"

And she won with ease, her soft 1.3 length margin prompting jockey Craig Williams to declare - "she gets cover in the Oaks and they just won't beat her!"

Williams was concerned during the race that his charge was doing too much work but he had great faith in her natural ability and will to win.

"I had to trust her and it was great that she was able to tough it right out and win."

A happy and proud group of owners were on hand to enjoy the experience of a feature race win on Australia's classiest race day.

"How tough is she?!" enthused Rupert Legh - "she has such a big heart."

"This is a great thrill for us," said Rohan Aujard. "She doesn't know how to run a bad race, she's a grand filly."
