Savile Row Up For Group One Challenge!

The New Zealand arm will be represented by three runners at two meetings tomorrow and there has been plenty of excitement around the Group 1 2000 Guineas to be run at Riccarton, and Ballymore will saddle up a strong hope in Savile Row (pictured).

Having produced a gallant third placing in the Listed Barneswood Stakes over 1400m three weeks ago, Savile Row has come on in leaps and bounds according to co-trainer Pam Gerard.

“He’s very well and he’s ready to go,” said Gerard.

“Being a colt, they do tend to get a bit full of themselves, but we couldn’t be happier with our guy and he’s a chance in what is a good field.”

Savile Row jumps from barrier nine and will be ridden by Mark du Plessis.

Up north Fortaleza and As You Will line up in their respective races at Te Rapa.

Fortaleza will look to have conditions to suit – firm surface, good draw and 1600m trip – and stands as a very good chance to take out the maiden three-year-old event over 1600m.

“She’s always shown us plenty, but has had her share of set backs.”

“There is no doubting her quality and class and the team are confident she can put her best foot forward today.”

As You Will will be making is second race day appearance in the 2YO event over 1000m and will have the services of leading apprentice Sam Weatherley.

“He did a lot wrong in his first start at Ruakaka, but he’s matured and improved since then so we’re hoping for a good showing.”

“The wide draw is obviously a concern, but with Sam’s claim it may make things a little easier.”
