Moroney boosts winter team in Queensland (aports and racing 13/05/09)

Trainer  Mike Moroney's winter carnival stocks have been boosted with the arrival of Brisbane Cup hope Tinseltown and Queensland Oaks-bound Revoke.

Three-year-old I Robot was also one of the Moroney team which arrived safely on a flight from New Zealand on Wednesday and will start in Saturday's Group Three BTC Classic (1350m) at Doomben.

New Zealand apprentice Craig Grylls, who rode the Ishiguru colt when fifth to Geeza in the Group Three Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Te Rapa on Anzac Day, retains the ride for the BTC Classic.

Tinseltown earned a Queensland trip with his victory in the Group Three Rotorua Cup (2200m) at Te Aroha on May 2 when Grylls was aboard the Pentire five-year-old.

Moroney plans a hit-and-run mission with Tinseltown on the Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 6.

The Brisbane Cup and Group One TJ Smith (1600m) will be run for the first time on Stradbroke Handicap day as part of Super Saturday fixture.

"Tinseltown was very unlucky in the Auckland Cup (March 4) when they went very slow early and hopefully he'll measure up and prove to us he'll be a suitable spring horse," Moroney said.

Moroney will have four runners at Doomben on Saturday but will miss the meeting to saddle up last year's Group One Doomben Cup winner Sarrera in Sunday's $2.8 million Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji.

Last year's Stradbroke Handicap winner Mr Baritone will spearhead Moroney's Doomben team and will be ridden by Hong Kong-based jockey Jamie Winks in the Group Three BTC Sprint (1350m).

Mr Baritone finished fifth to Danleigh in the Group One All-Aged Stakes (1400m) at his last appearance at Randwick on April 25.

A wide barrier forced Moroney to scratch the seven-year-old from the Listed Prime Minister's Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast on May 2 before the gelding missed the Group One BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben last Saturday with a minor leg infection.

Moroney believes Mr Baritone's bid for successive Stradbroke Handicaps (1400m) is still on track despite missing two important runs.

"He's only missed one morning's work with the infection and he's had plenty of work and racing," he said.

"He's had more runs already this campaign than what he had going into last year's Stradbroke."

Moroney hopes to get a clearer guide to his Queensland Oaks hopes when stablemates Princess Pulse and Prix Du Sang do battle in the Group Three Doomben Roses (2020m).

Princess Pulse will be ridden by Glen Boss who won aboard the filly last start in the Group Three Auraria Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on May 2.

Craig Williams will ride last-start winner Prix Du Sang before flying out to partner Sarrera in the Singapore Cup.

Moroney is hoping Revoke can be his third runner in the Group One Oaks (2400m) but is aware she could struggle to make the field with insufficient prizemoney.
