Surface To Air Breaks Through

A step up in distance was relished by the lightly raced and promising Surface To Air at Geelong on Tuesday, the three-year-old breaking his maiden in easy fashion over 1900m.

Always travelling well just off the leaders, Surface To Air joined the lead straightening and was soon clear, briefly challenged by Miss Remington before getting the upper-hand late.

"He got into a bit of trouble at his previous run," Greg Hoysted reported, "but he was strong to the line today and the further he goes the better he will be."

Jockey Jordan Childs was confident throughout the race.

"We had a nice run in transit, he was always relaxed. He responded well when I stoked him up at the turn and he was full of running at the finish."

Racing in the same apple green and navy silks as last weekend's Sunshine Coast Guineas winner Tivaci, Surface To Air was purchased by Paul Moroney at the 2014 Karaka Select Yearling Sale.

A son of the Epsom Derby winner Sir Percy, he is a half-brother to the Gr.3 winner Intransigent out of a placed mare by one of our favourite stallions Pentire.

And he boasts a link to one of our best horses, sharing the same grandam as our VRC Derby and Wellington Cup winner Second Coming. This is an outstanding international family, one that has also produced the successful stallions Dubawi and In The Wings.
