All Knitted Up Has the Potential

The ever improving stayer All Knitted Up (pictured) is good shape for a strong performance on Wednesday at Te Rapa in the Rating 65 event over 2100m, but the weather has already played its part and the team are hoping the track improves with a better forecast predicted over the next couple of days.

The well bred son of Mastercraftsman needs a good surface to demonstrate his full potential, but in terms of preparation he has been pleasing the team with his work and looks a solid chance in a race boasting several last start winners.

“He’s always improving and learning, and gets better and better with each run. He wasn’t suited to the rain affected going last time at Ellerslie, but he pulled up very well and has come to hand nicely ahead of Wednesday.” Co-trainer Chad Ormsby said.

“He needs to get rolling and into a nice rhythm, and Sam (Spratt) knows what he needs in the running, so she will pay a big part in his performance.”

All Knitted Up does carry a NZ Derby nomination and his next couple of performances will determine whether that race will fit into his future.

The second runner on the card will be a first starter, another son of Mastercraftsman, and while the 1400m distance may be a touch short, he possess a very relaxed attitude and action to boot, and the team are looking forward to him stepping out over suitable ground in the near future.

“He’s a lovely horse that has the makings of a very nice stayer,” Ormsby said.

“The 1400m will be a bit short, but he has to kick off somewhere and he will take a lot from the outing and experience.”
