Rising to the Occasion - Rising Stock

You don't see many performances as tough and as gallant as the one Rising Stock (pictured as a yearling) produced on Monday when taking the last on the card at Benalla over 1406m - recording his second career win.

Drawn the widest of a 10 horse field, Rising Stock and apprentice jockey Ben Allen didn't receive any luck in the running and were forced to race three deep, without cover, the entire trip.

Upon balancing and making his run down the straight, Rising Stock was headed by two horses and looked beat with 150m out, but the lightly tried galloper refused to lay down and stuck on to get up in the final stride by a nose.

Rising Stock was an astute purchase at the 2013 Karaka Select Yearling Sales, by appointed bloodstock consultant Paul Moroney, and was secured for NZ$22,000 from the draft of Anistay Lodge.

Paul Moroney is no stranger to the family having purchased multiple Group 1 winner Wall Street.
