Starstripe Ready to Strike at Matamata

A significant drop in class sees classy three-year-old filly Starstripe (pictured) a strong chance in the Rating 65 event over 1600m at Matamata today with leading rider Matthew Cameron engaged to ride.

The quality daughter by Starcraft wasn’t suited to the slow track conditions at Ellerslie, when contesting the Trevor Eagle Memroial Stakes, although the home track advantage along with goof track conditions should see her go close to recording her second career start.

“We feel she is wanting get over more ground and on her home track, over 1600m, should suit her down to the ground.” Co-trainer Chad Ormsby said.

“We’d love to get her to the Royal Stakes over 2000m, although she would have to put her hand up today and really warrant a start there.”

All Knitted Up continues to improve with each race day outing and he looks set to run another encouraging race in the maiden event over 2000m.

“He’s taken a while to get fit as he does so well at home. He’s a genuine stayer who just continues to get better and better, with time he is going to be a nice horse.”

“He’s drawn well and will have the services of Sam Spratt so we’d like to think he will be there when the whips are cracking.”

The third and final runner on the card for Ballymore is the lightly tried Majic El who will have his third carrier outing in the Maiden event over 1400m.

“His run had plenty of merit last time out and he’s taken plenty of improvement from that experience.” Ormsby said.

“He has good gate speed and should be there or thereabouts. If he can relax and race a little more generously, I think he will be very competitive.”
