Margin Trader Back on Track

Promising stayer Margin Trader (pictured) is ready to make his presence felt, according to trainer Michael Moroney, following a disappointing last start effort, when he takes his place in the Rex Gorell Rating 64 event over 1726m at Geelong today.

Moroney believes the effects of a virus was to blame for a lack lustre effort at his last outing, but a full recovery has seen him back to his usual self, while his work suggests he is going as good as ever.

“He’s recovered from the virus which was the result of his performance last start, and his work leading into Geelong has been strong, so we are expecting a much improved performance” Moroney said.

“The draw is tricky and from there we will have to ride him back as we have previously. The Geelong track should give him enough time to get balanced at the top of the straight and make strong a run home.”

The ultra-consistent Deckhand will be looking to cap off some strong recent form when he lines up in Race 4 on the card, and makes the step up to 2233m – a trip he has placed on in two occasions from two outings.

The four-year-old son of Darci Brahma will be ridden by Daniel Moor and jumps from the ace draw which will give him a great opportunity to take a prominent position in the running.

The last runner on the card will be the debutant Malfum who lines up in Richie Bro’s Auctioneers Maiden Plate over 1412m and will be ridden by Jake Noonan.

“He’s a first starter by Rip Van Winkle, a young sire we think plenty of, and while we think he will be suited over more ground, this race is a good platform for him to kick his career off” Moroney said.
