Soul Sista on target for Ellerslie Twilight

Following a tardy beginning at her last outing, which cost her the race, Soul Sista (pictured) hopes to have put all that behind her as she targets the Rating 65 event over 1600m at Ellersle’s twilight meeting tomorrow night.

Prior to her lack lustre start, Soul Sista stamped herself as an emerging staying prospect – a label she has always shown glimpses of living up to – but now is that little more mature physically and it is certainly showing in her work.

“She was a certainty beat at Avondale, before winning comfortably at Tauranga, and we knew she had come back to the stable as the horse we always thought she would be,” co-trainer Chad Ormsby said.

“Her barrier manners and tardy starts have let her down, but we have done some homework, and with Opie (Bosson) in the saddle, I don’t believe there is going to be an issue.”

Soul Sista is the daughter of red hot sire Pentire and was purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock at the Karaka Yearling Sales.

Soul Sista will jump from barrier six and while she comes up against a strong line-up, her work and performances on race day suggest she will be competitive.

“She missed the kick by 15 lengths at her last start and only finished eight lengths behind the winner, and wasn’t ridden out. If she gets a fair crack at them, she will be very competitive.”
