Happy Melbourne Cup Day!

After another successful open day at Ballymore's Flemington stables on Monday we are looking forward to Melbourne Cup Day - not a hectic one for us this year but we head to the track with two nice chances.

The first of whom is the classy filly Serenade (pictured) who takes her place in the sixth event, the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate over 1400m.

To jump from barrier seven for Brett Prebble, she was a close up fifth in the Gr.3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield last start and she strips hard fit for this assignment.

"There are some nice horses in the race but it is a drop in class for her," Michael Moroney said, adding that "the step up to 1400m looks suitable."

"She should prove hard to beat."

Coming off a game Seymour Cup third, Garud looks nicely placed in the Listed Symphony Stakes, an 1800m contest in which he has drawn well in barrier three for Ryan Maloney.

And that Seymour form looks pretty good with the winner Turn Me Loose so impressive winning at Group level on W.S Cox Plate day at his next outing.

"He races well at Flemington and he is a lightweight chance from a good barrier," Moroney said.

We may also have a runner at Randwick on Tuesday although if the track happens to be wet we may save the promising Fortune Patch for another day.

An impressive Wyong maiden winner in early October, the son of Not A Single Doubt has freshened up nicely and so long as it is not too demanding a track he should "again prove hard to toss."
