Caulfield Guineas Day!

Saturday is a big one for Ballymore Stables - our talented team represented by exciting horses in three of the four Group One races being run at Caulfield on Saturday.

Kicking off our busy day is the classy filly Serenade who is third up and nicely primed for another of the day's features, the Gr.3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes.

Drawn nicely in barrier five for Glen Boss, the daughter of Star Witness got back and wide from a tricky gate in the Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley but was doing her best work late for a game third.

"There was an on-pace bias to that track and it was always going to be hard for her once she drew out," Michael Moroney said.

"Glen (Boss) felt that if she had drawn better she could've been right on the hammer of the leaders and finished second."

"Saturday looks the right race for her and she is a live chance. The winner of the Champagne isn't running and the second horse (Secret Agenda) is one of the favourites so she has the right form lines."

We saddle up two smart stayers in the Gr.2 Herbert Power Stakes - last start winner Black Tomahawk and Mister Impatience.

Recording a dominant victory in the Listed Harry White Stakes at this same track a couple of weeks ago, Black Tomahawk again has the services of Glen Boss who rode him so superbly that day.

"It looks a slightly stronger race but not too much so," said Moroney, adding that "he has trained on very well and he looks a nice chance from another good gate (two)."

Also drawn well in the race, with Daniel Moor to ride, Mister Impatience is second up having resumed over a mile in mid-September.

"I am not concerned about the sudden rise in distance as he is a natural stayer," Moroney said.

"The firm track is the thing most likely to play against him, some rain would've been good for him," he said - looking forward to getting the Queensland Cup winner up to even more ground.

Rhythm To Spare, who lines up in his second Toorak Handicap, is the first of our Group One runners for the day and we are expecting a bold showing from the son of Pins.

"He is really flying," Moroney enthused, adding that his form is better than it looks on paper.

"He had no luck whatsoever last time and he should've been right up there."

Suited up to the mile third up, Rhythm To Spare is at big odds but Moroney thinks that with the right luck in running he can be in the thick of things.

"He is a well weighted good long-shot chance."

Both Guineas are run on Saturday and we have big chances in both, kicking off with Alaskan Rose in the 1000 Guineas.

"She got a bit roughed up last time out but she appears fine and we have been very happy with her this week."

"The 1600m suits better and in an even race she looks to be one of the better chances."

Steven Arnold sticks with Alaskan Rose who looks like getting a nice run in transit from barrier six.

It is a trickier task for Tulsa (pictured) in the Caulfield Guineas, the up-and-coming Sebring gelding again drawing barrier 16.

That's the same wide gate three starts running for Tulsa with Moroney saying that at least "he has good practice at it!"

"It's another horror draw but it should be a truly run race and he is a definite chance."

"A very firm track would be of some concern but he has trained on well."

New to the stable, New Zealand mare In Style makes her debut for us in the final event, the Gr.3 Northwood Plume Stakes.

A Group One winner of the Railway Stakes earlier in the year, the consistent six-year-old with a great strike rate (seven wins from 15 starts) has her first run since mid-January.

Drawn barrier three for Opie Bosson, she looks, says Moroney, nicely placed.

"I have seen stronger mares races and she brings very good with her from New Zealand. She is an interesting runner."

We also have several provincial runners over the weekend including Kiwi Dreamer and Courageous Rock at Cranbourne on Friday night.

Coming off a disappointing run at Sale late last month, Kiwi Dreamer has several gear changes (blinkers and tongue tie back on) and looks suited back slightly in trip for Jake Noonan.

"We think he can go a long way better this time," Moroney said.

We are hoping it is a case of two horses breaking their maidens with Courageous Rock suited up to 1600m second up.

"He was just even first up but he is better than that."

"We think he is quite a reasonable stayer in the making and whilst this is still short of what will be his best distance he is definitely better than maiden class."

Meanwhile Vandancer heads to Pakenham on Saturday and she is another horse who looks well placed to break through.

A gallant debut second at Seymour recently, the Savabeel filly has pleased us since.

"She is a very nice filly in the making - we have always had a good opinion of her."

Trendsetter takes his place in the 2025m handicap on Cranbourne Cup Day (Sunday) and after tough placings at his last couple of starts he looks ideally placed up in distance.

"He has had a lot of things go wrong during his career so it is good to see him finally up to the right sort of trip."

"We are adding a fair bit of gear to him as he cost himself by wanting to lay out last time."

"We think he is the sort of horse who, once he breaks through, can go right through the classes."

We also have Golden Patch running on Sunday, the Sebring three-year-old set to debut at Hawkesbury with Christian Reith to take the ride.

"He is a learner who wanted to lay in a bit in his trial - he was a bit green - but he was still very good and he is a horse of decent ability."
