Massale – Outstanding!

It was no surprise connections enjoyed immense elation following the dominant fresh up victory of Massale (pictured) in the Rating 65 event over 1000m at Taupo yesterday in the hands of Champion jockey Opie Bosson.

Jumping away well from gate and putting himself in the running across the early stages, Massale travelled well for Bosson and found better ground out wide upon turning into the run for home.

Carrying a whopping 60.5kg and running four-wide no cover throughout, Massale ranged up to the leaders nicely with around 300m to go before Bosson asked for an effort and the response was immediate – Massale kicking away from his rivals to be eased down on the line winning comfortably by 1¼ lengths.

“He’s only had one soft jump-out and he’s blown me away, and blown the rest of the field away,” said Ormsby, who prepares Massale in partnership with Mike Moroney.

“He’s been in the wars this horse, and after he fell in the Karaka Million a couple of years ago his life was on the line, let alone the prospect of him ever racing again. The vets and chiropractors involve have done a great job with him just to get him back on the track.”

Massale carries the colours of long-time client Barry Neville-White and yesterday was his second career win from only ten starts to date, while his worst result has been fifth.

“He's had a good break following his last campaign and with the manner he won he might just be back to his best."
