Makarios out to maintain winning record

Impressive debut winning juvenile, Makarios (pictured), has got what it takes to make it back to back victories on Saturday when he contests the NZB Pearl Series 2YO event at Te Rapa over 1100m.

To be ridden by jockey Michael McNab, who rode him in his first and only trial at Ellerslie, Makarios made a favourable impression on debut when winning on his home track and the signs look promising for him to replicate that performance.

“He’s a very clean winded horse and we haven’t had to do much with him since his last start – he’s a naturally fit individual,” said co-trainer Chad Ormsby.

“He won on a rain affected going in his first start, so there is no reason why he shouldn’t handle the track on Saturday providing it isn’t too testing.”

Makarios is owned by New Zealand Thoroughbred Holdings Ltd and is by young and upcoming Westbury Stud sire Makfi.

“He’s got plenty of strengthening and developing to do, so what he does now is a bonus. He will be a very nice three-year-old next season.”
